TBD on Ning

I’ve been working on the speech all morning. In fact, I’ve made great progress.  I could go with what I have so far written.  But I feel, I know, that it needs a line that will really grab people’s attention.  A phrase came to my mind this morning: “All we have to fear is . . .”  Fear what?  What is it we have to fear?  Further economic erosion?  A lack of confidence in the markets?  All we have to fear is . . .  Maybe I should telephone Sam and get some idea or other from him.  He always has just the right turn of phrase.  Then I heard Babs walking in the hall.  “Babs, oh, Babs, come here for a moment.”  Babs entered the room.  I said, “Babs, I’m working on the speech and . . . “  At that moment she interrupted me brusquely.  “Frank, haven’t you finished that speech yet?  You only have one more day.”

The old addage applies: The only thing to fear is fear itself.

Fear is an intellectual and social cancer. Nothing good ever comes of fear. It prohibits one from experiencing our greatest gift: life itself.

Didn't Jesus say something about his prowess regarding the management of the welfare of a sparrow? If a sparrow has nothing to fear, flying across the plains, why would we, who God loves so much?

I don't think anybody noticed that Frank was in a wheelchair or if he reached for his water bottle.  But his words live on like that "day that will live in infamy" is still remembered.  He was a brave soul with some ideas that were considered controversial at the time. I have worshiped at his shrine in both Hyde Park and Warm Springs, a tour which I took just a couple of years back.  Of note, I found out he drove a 1938 Willis Americar, which was my first auto.  His was equipped with special hand controls.

Mophobia, fear of being verbally abused by a Mississippian.
