<p>I bought a thousand red worms for about forty bucks last year and instead of buying a worm condo, made my own with a plastic tub and lid that we drilled small holes into. The bedding is a combo of shredded junk mail and garden dirt and you want it to be damp but not wet. I use coffee grinds and banana peels and tea bags because they don't reek to high heaven the way that onions would. The amount of worms doubles about every six months.
