TBD on Ning

Yes, let's talk about it.

I'm a nurse and a bodyworker/energyworker, as well as being one of those people for whom physical affection is not just pleasant or fun but a downright necessity. I'm a hugger. I'm a toucher.

I think, though, that in modern society, we just don't get enough casual contact to keep us from getting depressed. We think it is loneliness, we think it is horniness, we think it is a lot of things, but what a lot of it is, simply, is lack of physical contact with others in our environment. Our bodies were designed to be touched; there are millions and millions of nerve cells all over the outsides of us that are sitting there waiting to have some sensory input.

Can we start a revolution? Wouldn't it be nice to be able to huddle together in a giant puppy pile until we were all content? I think that allowing ourselves to be affectionate with each other, no agendas, no intent, just letting ourselves interact with each other so we get enough Vitamin Touch to keep away the blues would be a splendid thing.

There have been studies done that prove that infants fail to thrive if they are not held enough. If it affects them that strongly, you know it affects us our whole lives. We need each other. We shouldn't be afraid or ashamed to touch each other.

LOL... well, I guess puppy piles are an acquired taste, eh? There's a lot of us here that are nurses; maybe we need our own forum ;-)

Caroline I have to agree with you although the picture of the puppies kinda threw me, lol.

I am a nurse too and a woman who lives a very alone kind of life. I even work from home now. Uggh! People who have people have NO idea.

You've probably read my page by now; I am a crusader for touch. I appreciate your comments and thoughts! I believe that the only way we can change the world is to change our selves, by softening and opening ourselves and rejecting FEAR (false evidence appearing real).

One of the most profound techniques I've learned in my energywork training is designed to help with transition, and works so beautifully for the dying. Connecting, heart to heart, is what we are here for.

Hi Caroline, I worked with the terminally ill for 26 years, Yes I know very deeply from my work and in my own life how very important and also how effective touch is. There are so many documented results of using simple to complex touch therapy, Have you ever taken the courses on touch therapy? They are wonderful especially when dealing with severe pain and when someone is dying. The energy's from one person to another through touch actually causes uncontrollable responses.
Personally, yes I also can relate to being what you call "a hugger" I always have been. In fact I just today met my first real life TBDer and I am sure he could vouch for the hugs! Affection, simple affections do cause a psychological response, touch sends messages to the brain that tell the brain that there is a connection to satisfaction and contentment. I just wanted to say that yes I do know and have experienced what you are sharing and I do think that as a common society we have become much more resistant to touch.

But then there are alot more guns in our schools and on our streets as well, maybe this is one alternative to touch! People in general are not as kind, polite or even social as they used to be...Your point might be better considered off the front page. Maybe in Spirituality and Consciousness, or even in one of the health threads..Anyway a wonderful topic, you just need the correct crowd.
