This week we look at a prayer Jesus instructed us as His disciples to pray.
Luke 11: 1-4
In it Jesus taught us to submit to God as our Father, to honor God’s great name through our obedience to Him, and to pray for God’s kingdom both in the sense that it would continue to grow now through evangelism and discipleship and that His kingdom would come in all of its glory and perfection in the future.
Jesus also teaches us to pray in a way that acknowledges God as someone we need daily to sustain us, to forgive us of our sins, and lead us in the right way when we are tempted by the world, the flesh, and the Devil to do evil.
To be honest, this prayer recognizes our frailty. It saves us from the inclination we have to put up some sort of façade saying we have arrived. The truth is we are all broken and thus we all desperately need God.
So this prayer which Jesus taught us to pray is very helpful in that it gives us not words to mindlessly repeat, but a pattern to follow so that when we come before God in prayer we come to Him in the right way with the right mindset.
