Can You Spot the Facebook Narcissist?

Facebook profiles can tell you more than just peoples' birthdays and what movies they like — they can reveal the self-adoring, a new study suggests.

Researchers at the University of Georgia gave personality questionnaires to nearly 130 Facebook users and analyzed the content of their online profiles. They also had untrained observers look at the profiles and rate how narcissistic, or excessively egotistical, the owners of the profiles were.

The results of the study are… Continue

Elegy for the Queen (of Hearts)

Elegy for the Queen (of Hearts)

They sat through candlelight so starry eyed

in Europe's lovely Jewel; lonely Paris.

He asked four words; his stolen heart's demand:

"Will you marry me?" She did whisper, "Yes."

Her lips then lingered on his olive hand

and with that kiss their sorry fate was sealed.

'If,' 'if only,' such words are naught but sand;

upon that kiss did rumored lips…

Just Another Day, (posted there, but want my friends to have the chance to know the truth)

In the weakness of being human, Today is in reality, just another day...However on this day I am feeling my humanity perhaps a little more than I would like to. I came to TBD when it was at the other sight, in all of my ignorance I treated people as I have long fought to be treated, with love, kindness, compassion and care. I also found my way to sharing some of my life and alot of my own struggles with grave health issues and such. When I was taken ill in an even greater way and put on home… Continue

The Bleak Trend Of Everyones Health Care Without Reform and the real story of who is really not covered now, including the working poor.

Data released today by the Census Bureau show that the number of uninsured Americans stood at a record 46.6 million in 2005, with 15.9 percent of Americans lacking health coverage. “The number of uninsured Americans reached an all-time high in 2005,” said Robert Greenstein, executive director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. “It is sobering that 5.4 million more people lacked health insurance in 2005 than in the recession year of 2001, primarily because of the erosion of… Continue

Brian P. Brown, Branch Librarian of the Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library, Washington, DC, will be retiring. I could make some nasty comments, but I won't.

Congressman Mike Roger's Opening Statement on Health Care Reform in Washington, DC

I'm curious (not sarcastic)...What source does congress use to get these numbers? It seems every time you turn around, people site a different set of numbers. It gets confusing. So who's right?

In a way, it doesn't matter how many are without insurance -- It matters that people's needs are taken care of in a timely fashion. How can we accomplish this without breaking the country, not only financially, but spiritually and… Continue

What Bush and Friends did in your name.

The international Committee of the Red Cross made a report of the prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay in Feburary 2007. It said, "prisoners are subject to torture and/or cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

They described the treatment included suffocation by water, prolonged stress positions, which involved standing, "naked, held with arms extended and chained above the head" for up to three days: while hung from the ceiling, toilet access was sometimes denied, forcing… Continue

Are You A Creative Person?

I see myself as a creative person. Among other things, I tend to be independent in my thinking and actions. Sometimes my independence has gotten me in trouble with more conforming people. How does one maintain his independence and, at the same time, get along with people who place a premium on conformity and conventionality?

My psychiatrist recommended that I try to be more conforming. He said if I was less independent, my relations with other people might improve. He said,… Continue

A Message From Matt Burke

I have a Facebook friend named Matt Burke. He lives in Manchester, England. He once telephoned me; we chatted for a while. He's a professional musician: a trumpet player and teacher. He's a fan of jazz and classical music, especially Mahler and Bruckner. Here's a recent message I got from Matt:

Hi Gary,

I loved reading about your trip [to Atlantic City], it made me smile! Sounds like you had a lovely time and spent just the right amount of time away too? I enjoyed how… Continue

Hunny's better

His meds are helping him rest now. :D

His disability has been approved. As soon as the paperwork goes through we'll have a little in the bank.

Today we got a break from the heat. Thank you Lord. It was so hot this week, but a front came through.

Appalacian Round

Try as I might as a musician I cannot find a good source for music. I can find lyrics up the proverbial wazoo but nothing with lyrics and notation. I can understand something that is under copyright but why with-hold open domain folk songs or hymns.

I am trying to find sheet music for piano for an Appalacian Round; "Take Me Back Oh Hills I Love." Alas to no avail can I find a score. Has anyone else had the same difficulties. Why must everything come with a price?!

Kopechne (that's "ko-peck-nee")

The Knave and the Maiden

There was once a son of a powerful, wealthy and well-connected family. In fact, his family was the closest thing to Royalty his countrymen had ever seen. He had all the advantages of life. The best education, owned beautiful properties and enjoyed the adulation and yes, worship of millions. When his brothers sallied forth to change the world they were slain and so the mantle was passed on to our privileged one.

His was a future guaranteed. Why, he… Continue

The Lion and the Princess

I learned this morning of the death of Ted Kennedy. He was 77 years old. That’s not very old from my perspective, but we don’t ever know how much time we‘ll have here. As long as I can remember, Kennedy was a senator. One tied to a storied Irish Catholic family in the Northeast. One whose name kept appearing and reappearing on legislation that urged America to live up to its promise.

There is much that will be made in the coming days of his legislative contributions, his family, his… Continue

Feeling funky about TBD

Lately, I've noticed myself feeling funky about TBD. Can't figure out why. Just a general funky feeling about TBD. No explanation comes to mind.

For example, I lurk in Chat day or night, but don't pasrticipate in chat. I just watch. I haven't been posting or reading posts for almost a week now. I kind of feel like I'm on the fringe, like I'm on the outside, looking in. Like I'm not being included. Like my family is going on vacation and I'm being left behind. Like I said, I have no… Continue

What goes on in the corridors of power, leaving aside rhetoric of patriotism?

Saturday, August 22, 2009, 02:52 AM GMT [Current Affairs]

I picked a copy of ,"The Commission:The uncensored history of The 9/11 Investigation" by Philip Shenon from M.L.K Library,San Jose, and went through nerve shattering account of what actually goes in the corridors of power, leaving aside rhetoric of patriotism and pep talk of war against terrorism. How bold,… Continue
