Hi, Quilty! So glad to see you! Here's a definition taken from wikipedia:
Senryū (川柳?, literally 'river willow') is a Japanese form of short poetry similar to haiku in construction: three lines with 17 or fewer "on" (translated in English as syllables) in total. However, senryū tend to be about human foibles while haiku tend to be about nature, and senryū are often cynical or darkly humorous while haiku are more serious. Unlike haiku, senryū do not include a kireji (cutting word), and do not generally include a kigo, or season word.
In our group on TBD, people had occasionally pointed out that what we were writing was not, strictly, haiku...and they were right. So I thought I'd open it up for the sticklers... :>)
I don't know how it's going to work here...this is set up more like a chat than a discussion, as we had on TBD....but let's give it a whirl!
Hi Lynne...Not a silly question at all! We are all just feeling our way... Your assumptions sound good to me!
Yes, discussion threads will be our topics, and the idea of posting general comments to the wall sounds good. I think the "Reply to" that appears under each comment in the thread will be good for direct rejoinders ("answering" haiku, giving "kudos," etc.).
It will all fall into place eventually, I'm hoping. Anybody with an idea of how to make this better, please chime in...there ain't no Grand Poobah of haiku here...
Namaste, Lily! Thanks for adding your good energy to the group, and for the senryu. Let your creative juices flow here...the format is less appealing than at TBD Prime, and no kudos, but we're trying to make a go of it. Some things are, simply, too beneficial to let fade away. Please, invite all your friends to join us!
Oh, Jaki, so happy to see you here! I've been gathering my haiku on TBD Prime and just got your PM....Glad to hear all is well. When work lightens up, please do drop by and add your words to ours!
Wonderful to meet you, Caroline! As you see, we're not strictly writing traditional haiku, but whatever it is we're doing...it's fun and a good creative outlet. Join in the discussions or add one...

Hi, I'm really the old Westerly. I can't access my old profile anymore, for reasons only the computer gods know. So I'm starting all over again, y'all.
Here I am again
hoping to be of value
Be patient, my friends
Gosh, but it's good to have a haiku home. I didn't save any from TBD1. I decided that was yesterday, and the training field of dreams. I've vowed to study more an improve. New home, fresh start! Thank you Angharad!
Lock this by bookmarking it into your toolbar (add a google toolbar - it has spell check and other great tools too) . Open TBD and open this tab too. You can move back and forth btw the two and copy and past one (or several in a row) of the icons as you deem fit.
Don't forget to thank Chuck. It's brilliant!
Cheers!
DZGD for your kind comment...I would have felt like a ghost, wandering cyberspace with nowhere to feed my addiction to 5/7/5. And I'll be sure to go thank Chuck for the "emoticons." I'd created some, but wasn't sure how to make them available for everyone...technodunce here!
Welcome to our new digs, Olivia and Eve! When you go into the discussions, you'll see that the format is different, but it, essentially, works the same. And you'll see our friends from TBD Prime, and that the creativity goes on.
Jaki...are you asking if keeping the log is good, or if the writing is good? Do I have to come over there and....tee hee.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!!!!! To those of us who are mothers in fact, to those of us who are mothers in spirit, and to those of us who are just plain...lol...Mothers!
Daddieo...your haiku and your photographs are amazing! You must have several books of photography under your belt. For some uncomplicated, quick fun, however, you should go to blurb.com and construct a book combining them, as you did here. Blurb gives you flexibility to create the book you imagine, and it's remarkably inexpensive. A plus is, you don't go through the hassles of traditional publishing.
