Once a representative from another project on our floor called around to complain about the excess of levity in our office.

Pediatric cancer research is such a hoot!

That was over 30 years ago.  That project is long gone and we are still here.

hope everyone is having a day filled with love and laughter

Wow, Shannon!  Way to revive a topic!

It has been more than a year since that post and I've been at 50% time and gone on my long trip.  And booked another one for late 2012.

Now I'm looking forward to getting treated for my sleep apnea on my work health insurance and seeing how much better my life becomes.  In October, I'll re-evaluate my work situation, but I can't imagine a retirement that consists of only collecting a check.  When I retire from my long-time career in medical research, I plan to dive right back into developing another in writing and communication.

I've heard there is money to be made in propaganda.  Now if I could do it without selling out, that would be great. :o)

I am a firm believer that retirement doesn't need to mean you are tired. However, I have this roommate, see, who thinks that is exactly what it entitles him to...collect a check and expect everything to go away all because he's 'retired'. Cannot get this guy to realize he has to supplement to make it. Any ideas?? I've tried them all!!

Dottie, In answer to your question about parking my RV when I either can't travel anymore, or just get tired of traveling. Currently I have a pad with water, electric and sewer on my farm in WV. The problem is; I don't like it there. I spent all summer of 2008 out there getting it set up, and then three months there last year. It's too far out in the boondocks for me. Maybe if I was married it might be a little better, but probably not. It's 12 miles from the nearest little dinky town. When I was a kid it was a pretty thriving place, but has almost become a ghost town now. It is 45 mi to the nearest town or city of any size. I like it there for about two weeks and then start going stir crazy. So, I'm still looking for the perfect spot. I would consider selling the farm, but in todays market I wouldn't be able to get much out of it. And, I promised it to my sons when I die. Lets just say "even thought I'm retired, I'm still a work in progress"

Turning 66 on Thursday and going to 50% time in May.
In January, taking two months off to travel. Maybe I'll come back to work. I'll see.
Anticipation may be better than the experience itself.

To amend my post below, I am NOT going to work in Yellowstone Park this summer. Its a change of plans. I have a couple of lines on work here, near home.

Dottie, Looks like you may have breathed new life into this group. The things that we used to worry about during retirement were the same as before retirement. Food, Shelter and Clothing. And for retirement most of us added, as a luxury, a little money for travel and entertainment. Now, Health Care is the fourth major manditory requirement.
I can't remember hearing anyone worring about being able to afford health care during retirement until in the early 80's. Is that a misconception on my part?
So, anyway, we now have the big 5. Food, Clothing, Shelter, Health Care, and Entertainment. What else do you need in retirement?
