"Warshing Clothes Recipe" - imagine having a recipe for this ! ! !
Years ago a Texas grandmother gave the new bride the following recipe:
This is an exact copy as written and found in an old scrapbook, spelling errors and all.
WARSHING CLOTHES
Build fire in backyard to heat kettle of rain water. Set tubs so smoke wont blow in eyes if wind is pert.
Shave one hole cake of lie soap in boilin water.
Sort things, make 3 piles
1 pile white,
1 pile colored,
1 pile work britches and rags.
To make starch, stir flour in cool water to smooth, then thin down with boiling water.
Take white things, rub dirty spots on board, scrub hard and boil, then rub colored don't boil just wrench and starch.
Take things out of kettle with broom stick handle, then wrench, and starch.
Hang old rags on fence.
Spread tea towels on grass.
Pore wrench water in flower bed. Scrub porch with hot soapy water.
Turn tubs upside down.
Go put on clean dress, smooth hair with hair combs. Brew cup of tea, sit and rock a spell and count your blessings.

Yukon Jack Bone Dust Beef Ribs
Here is the rather long recipe but it is really good

4 lbs beef spare ribs or short ribs can be used

Trim fat from ribs. Cut into 1, 2, or 3 rib portions. Place ribs in a 6 qt Dutch oven.

Add enough water to cover ribs. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, about 1-1/2 hours or until tender.

Drain ribs; let stand until cool enough to handle then put on the rub.
While waiting make sauce:

1 tbsp. olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
3 tbsp. finely chopped onion
3 fresh jalapeño chilis, finely chopped
1/4 cup honey
1 cup chicken broth
1/3 cup rice vinegar
1/4 cup Yukon Jack
1 tsp. powdered ginger
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. mustard seeds
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tbsp. cold water
Salt as desired

to make the Sauce:
In a med saucepan, heat oil over med-high heat. Add garlic, onion and jalapeño peppers; cook for 2 – 3 min or until tender. Stir in honey, broth, vinegar, Y. Jack , ginger, dry mustard, mustard seeds, black pepper and cayenne pepper. Bring to boiling; reduce heat to low. Simmer, covered, for 10 min. Stir together cornstarch and cold water; add to mixture in pan. Cook and stir until slightly thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 2 min more. Season to taste with salt. Remove from heat.

The spice rub:
4 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. chili powder
1-1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground coriander
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. curry powder
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. dried basil, crushed
1/2 tsp. dried thyme, crushed
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

In a small bowl, combine all rub ingredients

then when the ribs come out of the dutch oven you rub all over the meat and send them off to the grill.

Place ribs, bone sides down on the rack of the grill directly over med coals.

Brush with some of the sauce, grill for 10-15 min. (mine were done in 10) or until ribs are heated through and glazed with sauce.

To serve, reheat remaining sauce until bubbly; serve with ribs.

Makes 4 – 6 servings
