Do religious proselytizers come to your home?  If so what types?  How do your respond?  This forenoon a car pulled into my sister's place which is now next door practically and I saw a couple of people around her door.  I knew she was not home so walked over there and it was some Jehovah's Witnesses. They apparently did not stop at my place so maybe I am on their "Do Not Call" list due to previous year's encounters. I am always friendly to them and they usually ask what church one belongs to and if one reads the bible. I shocked them a bit by telling them I was not religious but on occasion have gone to the Universalist church in town (a sure sign of heathenism) if they feature a good speaker. A man stayed in the car with the motor running which is standard MO for them and two women spoke to me. When she brought her Bible up from her side I had the Clint Eastwood feeling of "Make my day."  I replied that I was familiar with the bible and yes I had read it. They claimed a literal interpretation and I pointed out the Bible claimed  only 1/7th of the Earth is covered water but in fact about 70% is covered (2 Esdrus 6:42). She shrugged that off. I pointed out that Joshua 10: 12-13 claims the Sun and Moon stood still (or the Earth depending on how you spin it) and that the laws of physics would have left an empirical trace of this and likely astronomical destruction would have occurred and other historical documents from other parts of the world would have corroborated it.  She called that a "miracle." But as the woman spoke she actually thumped her bible and I thought of Crestofwaves' comment on bible thumpers.  It is descriptive though.  Alas, another season and I still was not saved and they moved on to the neighbors who I know to be church-going Teapartiers so maybe they had more agreement there.

Back in my 20's there used to be a lot of Bible Thumper's come around to Harass me . Now a days if i speak to one it is to send him on his or her way . A Jehovah's Witness came by but drove off before i could harass him ...

it's against the law.

I get Baptist, Jehovah's Witness, and non denominational Evangelicals all the time. If I see who it is before hand I don't answer the door. If I miss that just tell them I am an atheist, I am not really. That often turns them off but if they persist I start asking them questions about their beliefs. They generally don't really know what they believe and leave in a few minutes.

They still come around, my husband talks to them and is nice which is ok, I'm afraid I would be rude. I don't like people who think they know.....BS! If there was one true religion it would be for everyone on the planet, since that religion doesn't exist I'm not buying into any of them.

Years ago, when I was a mere teenager, my senile grandmother lived with us. I used to let the Jehovah Witnesses in the house and seated them at he kitchen table with her. That way she had some company. She always had a good time.

answer the door naked...pretty soon they stop coming around

I have no problem if they come to my door other than that they wake me up early in the morning, are all clean and neat and eager and I'm thinking I am a mess from rolling out of bed and I need some coffee before I can even talk about anything at all.

I see them as doing no harm and they feel good about it, so I feel no offense whatsoever.  If I can make their day by being kind, I do.  I have had a few return.

My brother is an atheist, much to my mother's chagrin, yet a few years back, he struck up a friendship with some Jehovah's witnesses who came to his door, and they visited several more times.  My brother enjoyed the discussions.

i don't have any problem with religious people. i've counted some as friends including a few catholic priests and nuns. the ones i detest are the arrogant and sanctimonious zealots...i go out of my way to tweak their noses and offend them...it doesn't take much especially when i offend people without even trying..think how offensive i can be when i put my mind to it....

Boyhowdy, Prob!

hey....was that sarcasm??? i might get my feelings hurt....

I live in a gated community...no solicitations at all.

Plus now you got that guard dog.
