Well, for anybody reading this...

I'm not pretentious enough to call it an "era", but whatever it is, it's coming to a close - WQNA, my scrappy little radio station in the cornfields of Central Illinois, has been put up for sale.

And we've got a pretty good idea who's going to buy it: Our main competition in the commercial-free, public-airwaves market, who have said that they're going to get rid of all local programming (and DJ's) and convert WQNA into a completely automated, satellite-feed station.

Whichh raises the question of "How can a station that claims to be a non-profit benefit from getting rid of the only other non-profit station in the area ?" -

But those are the kinds of questions that management doesn't like have asked - Especially not by ornery DJ's who, with their finely-honed sense for bullshit, frequently tend to ask.

Ah, well; It Was Fun While It Lasted. We don't know how long we have, and it may well be that nobody will ever tell us, so that we can't even plan farewell shows. So, all we can do is keep plugging away until somebody actually pulls the plug. Which makes me think that here's my opportunity to cut loose and p[lay the stuff that I've always figured was too scary for ANY potential listener to tolerate. If I gotta go, I'm going out with a bang.

Wow, very sorry to hear this, Snagg.

I'd be asking the same question you asked. Of course, I really know nothing about how radio stations function. I'm assuming the station which may buy yours would make money by increasing their broadcast area while not spending money on a human-run, fully-operational station. For profit nonprofits--is that a thing??

I was going to say that if you don't know when the plug will be pulled, you could make every broadcast "The Final Insult." Sounds like you're already planning to do that. ツ

If the worst happens, gonna miss you and your music, Snagg.

Well, the good news :

We're good until the end of the year. At least 4 solid months of airtime are still available. Many other options are being discussed, pondered and reviewed, including buying our own radio station from a Baptist church that's been sitting on one (and not using it) for the last 20 years. It'd be a sin NOT to take that off their hands......Especially if they've never heard my show.

More to come.

Potentially great news, Snagg! Purchasing the Baptist church's station sounds like a great idea if it wouldn't take too much to upgrade the technology and get it up and running. Also, the irony is VERY appealing to me, especially if they're a Southern Baptist congregation. Talk about doing the devil's work. Hahaha!

And, of course, the 4-month reprieve is a good thing in and of itself. Manuevering room.

Now I can happily settle in and listen to the tunes and wait for more news. I'm selfishly SO glad I won't miss out on all the holiday "specials" coming up--Halloween and Christmas, especially, just wouldn't be the same without 'em.

Fingers and toes (picture orangutan feet) crossed for only good news ahead.
