TBD on Ning

I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible...
Our suffering is impermanent, and that is why we can transform it. And because happiness is impermanent, that is why we have to nourish it." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

PTB this has been a most insightful and calming thread, weaving in and out and all around my mind,  so glad you mentioned it in BVF's . I will be sure and come often.  And thank you to everyone who contributed to it.

Thank you for the kind words. While I do this daily meditation for largely selfish reasons, (it resets my stress level to zero so I can start each day free from concerns left over from the previous day), it is always encouraging to think that someone else might benefit as well. That's like starting the day with extra emotional fuel in the tank.

When an idea persists through the ages, it must have some practical value.

"The Sage is good to those who are good.
He is also good to those who are not good.
That is the virtue of good."
— Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching, Ch. 49  (25 centuries ago)

“People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway."

Mother Teresa

"A true friend is someone who offers peace and happiness. If you're a true friend to yourself, you are able to offer yourself the true peace and happiness you seek." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

"Be more patient and forgiving of your brain, it's not always as smart as you." ~ Steven Handel

Be here now.
Be someplace else later.
Is that so complicated?

Wherever you go, there you are.
Your luggage is another story.

"Whether the moment is happy or not depends on you. It's you who makes this moment happy, not the moment that makes you happy." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

"You are always going to be a complex multitude of emotions. However you are feeling right now, it’s okay to feel this way."  ~  Everyday Mindfulness

"If I loved my neighbor as myself, most of the actions which are now my moral duty would flow out of me as spontaneously as song from a lark or fragrance from a flower." ~ C. S. Lewis
