I am starting a new thread here mainly for purposes of my own catharsis. It is my intention, at least at this point, to make regular contributions. Of course, if anyone else has anything to add, they are more than welcome. If you have any input, please contribute.

Over a year ago I decided to deal head-on with my self-diagnosed adult attention disorder, (ADD). The inability to stay focused was becoming too stressful. I found myself sitting around watching the clock tick, yet I couldn’t keep “on task” with any project I started. Nothing was getting done and just starting something was becoming depressing.

The smart thing to do was probably to get professional help, so instead I decided to try to heal myself, at least as a first try. Cognitive therapy and pharmaceuticals (UGH) might be the approved way to go but I decided to try meditation first.

18 months and countless self-help books later, I still can’t bring myself to a regular, formal meditation program. But, along the way, I discovered informal mindfulness. Yes, I know it is the “Fad” right now. It is hard to navigate modern social trends without “tripping over” somebody extolling the benefits of mindfulness.

Let me add my voice to the chorus.

"The practice is simple: pay attention to the thing you’re doing while you’re doing it."  Mindful Online

So much easier to say than to do, especially for those of us prone to ADHD. But the benefits are so worth it, even when the awareness of the focused attention only lasts a few fleeting moments.

My grandson has that.

True. Sorry I haven’t been around much. Still in a dark place concerning my daughter that passed.

"Healing is weird. Some days you’re okay and you’re doing just fine. Other days it hurts like it’s fresh. It’s a process with no definite time frame. You just have to keep going and know that when is all said and done, you’re going to be okay." ~ Tiny Buddha

Thank you.

“Things I know about healing:

When you want to run, stay.

When you want to hide, open up.

When you think you’re done, go a little further.”

~Rebecca Ray

"Watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are hidden in the most unlikely places." ~  Roald Dahl

"The moment we bring curiosity to anything, we have already increased our capacity. We are more conscious, which opens up choices. To be curious takes courage and interest, even love. To be curious involves caring enough to ask." ~ Beth Ann Mulligan

“Instead of stuffing down your depression, anxiety, shame, loneliness—or whatever emotion you’re tempted to resist—ask yourself: What message is it trying to send to me? “ ~ Kelly Martin

Good point.

"I am thankful that thus far today I have not had any unkind thoughts or said any harsh words or done anything that I regret. However, now I need to get out of bed and so things may become more difficult."
