The inventor of the world famous AK-47 assault rifle has died.

"MOSCOW (AP) — Mikhail Kalashnikov started out wanting to make farm equipment, but the harvest he reaped was one of blood as the designer of the AK-47 assault rifle, the world's most popular firearm."

"It was the carnage of World War, when Nazi Germany overran much of the Soviet Union, which altered his course and made his name as well-known for bloodshed as Smith, Wesson and Colt. The distinctive shape of the gun, often called "a Kalashnikov," appeared on revolutionary flags and adorns memorabilia."

No, I'm not a member of the NRA. I just have a love for technology and machines, and the AK-47 is a marvelous machine. Our troops have had to and continue to confront this weapon. It must be respected.

Remember, guns are not the problem. It is the people who use them for the wrong purpose.

I was given a semi automatic AK-47 clone. When the Zombie Apocalypse starts, I will be ready. How about you? :-)

I completely understand how you feel about guns, after having a 45 placed to back of my head during a mugging in the 70's.

The cop said I was very lucky. I got robbed by professionals, less prison time, if you don't hurt or kill someone. A pro knows this.
