I'm over halfway through The Pearl That Broke Its Shell by Nadia Hashimi about an Afghan girl in today's society. It also goes back 100 years to her great-great-grandmother's similar story.

It's a little hard to follow all the strange names and customs but I am finding the story intriguing and very sad to see the women of Afganistan are still treated as property by their fathers and husbands.

I am approaching the end of Escape Clause by John Sandford. This one features Virgil Flowers, Sandford's other main character, along with Lucas Davenport. It is a typical hard-to-put-down Sandford mystery, this one involving some mentally challenged criminals (most of Sandford's criminals are at least somewhat mentally challenged) who manage to steal two tigers from a Minnesota zoo to kill and sell to Asians for medicinal purposes. I'm enjoying it, as I have all of Sandford's…

RAPA...I will put The Ice Beneath Her on hold at library.

Finished Hillbilly Elegy yesterday early evening. Very engaging to say the least. I was born in rust belt city of Warren, Ohio...very near Youngstown ...can totally understand the lifestyle of which he writes. Have visited south-western PA down into KY many times and lots of parallels. My Grandparents raised me until I was 12 and I spent every summer with them after Mother moved brother and I to Florida.

Has been awhile since I found a book that I found hard to put down. Lucked into one right off the new book shelf. If you enjoy psychological crime thrillers take a look at this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EE0CS9C/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encodi...

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! BTW, have any of you read it?

Thoroughly enjoyed NEWS of the WORLD! It's circa 1870 in Western Texas. Have recommended it to many, all of whom have liked it immensely.

Also enjoyed the non-fiction HILLBILLY ELEGY by J.D. VANCE. I was born a hillbilly and at one time lived in Cincinnati so could relate to the area. It's quite a portrayal of a culture that has not changed and the closeness of family.

Just finished one more that I really enjoyed. Whistling Past The Graveyard by Susan Crandall was delightful, suspenseful, funny and at times sad. Highly recommended.

From an award-winning author comes a wise and tender coming-of-age story about a nine-year-old girl who runs away from her Mississippi home in 1963, befriends a lonely woman suffering loss and abuse, and embarks on a life-changing roadtrip.

Whistling past the graveyard. That’s what Daddy called it when you did something to keep your mind off your most worstest fear. . . .

In the summer of 1963, nine-year-old Starla Claudelle runs away from her strict grandmother’s Mississippi home. Starla’s destination is Nashville, where her mother went to become a famous singer, abandoning Starla when she was three. Walking a lonely country road, Starla accepts a ride from Eula, a black woman traveling alone with a white baby. Now, on the road trip that will change her life forever, Starla sees for the first time life as it really is—as she reaches for a dream of how it could one day be.
Greetings Fun Seekers!

What is odd is that my Son had an amazing time with him in Atlanta...during that critical period between 19 and 29! So the ashes will be onward shipped to son Rocky's hands when all is said and done.

I don't know about any of you but back in my growing up years my uncles and aunts had a very important part in raising me. Think I have said before that our Father was killed in a training mission during WWII over Colorado. The whole family raised us.

BACK TO BOOKS! Gave up on several. NIGHT WATCH by Iris Johanson for one. I'm now listening to Adrian McKinty's 2010 book Dead Yard. I have some holds coming in so maybe can chat about that on a later post.

It was a bit of a downer so I put it aside to read The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion which was recommended by a friend. "Rosie" is a delightful comedy-romance about a brilliant but OCD socially challenged professor of genetics who decides to find a wife using an online questionnaire. Along comes Rosie who shakes up his world. If you need a happiness break, I highly recommend TRP. I was sorry to see it end but he is writing a sequel... :)

RAPA...Did learn some fun stuff on the PREPPER book but had to give up half way through.

Tomorrow I am leaving for Florida...oh woe is is me...only 15 degrees in Cleveland area. Lots of agony in Northeast and I so understand.

I started one Playaway...ONE MILE UNDER by Andrew Gross...kinda like it. See how it rolls.

On order:

In A Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware
The Brass Verdict by Michael Connelly
Night Watch by Iris Johansen
